PROVENANCE ANALYSIS OF ANCIENT MARBLES

The Method
The heterogeneity of the analytical data and the big number of quarries and sources of the classical marbles require a combination of different methods for a sound analysis of the provenance. During the last decades a vast number of marble sources were discovered and the corresponding compositional fields often exhibit substantial overlaps when using only one single method. Accordingly a multi-method approach and a statistical data treatment have to be applied.
